Few questions : did you make it with blender ? How much time did you take to master it ? Did you learn alone, with a tutorial or a specialized school ? Thanks for your answer if you do, and I have to say too that your work is damn great, congrats !

hehe, it's about 4 years old now so I don't even remember. I think its a viewport screen grab anyways, so no render time.

This reminds me a bit of the helmets the apes had in the recent Marky Mark's Monkey Lovin' remake of Planet of the Apes. Nice work!

Awesome!. I hope I'll see it in a game later on...
I'm currently thinking of the Protoss, of Starcraft...

I still have a lot of troubles with the smoothing groups and the mesh/turbosmooth of 3dsMax, and of course the booleans... any help?

I know you said the head gear was poly modeled in max, but do you happen to know any tuts as to how an effect like that is done in zbrush? Basically im looking for zbrush tuts on hard lines and INorganic surfaces. Thanks

sorry, cant think of any. tried pixolator.com?

if I were to do it in zbrush for some reason I'd start by creating alphas in photoshop with mechanical type shapes. I've seen some cool work done with alphas created from photos of computer gear...

Thats a good idea never thought about it! Similar to using displacement maps on maya for terrains.

Thanks, thats fine.

Yeah I tried zbrushcentral and I just can't find anything on it. The thing is I know I've seen tuts on it before, I just never needed it like I do now. I'll look into the alphas as well. Thanks again.

Looks great! Love it, but I have a question.

Did you happen to sketch out a plan or some thing for this before you modeled it, or did you just do it off the top of our head? Just wondering...
thanks

for this bust I just sketched a silhouette, then I made up the details as i modelled (purely for practise)

with every other character I always start with detailed concept art.

Ah, thanks. Once again, wonderful job. You've got quite an imagination, Which I believe is incredibly important!!
I don't know how some people can survive life without an imagination...
